According to God's Word, How does Salvation work?

It starts with an open heart accepting that we are all sinners, and the only way to Heaven is to repent of our sins and accept the gift of Jesus having taken our place and paying the penalty on our behalf. 

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Romans 10:9  KJV

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 3:17  KJV

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
